In two months of the current financial year, four people have died due to attacks by wild animals. According to Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, information officer of Chitwan National Park, two people died in tiger attack, one person died in rhinoceros attack and one person died in crocodile attack.
Two people were killed in a tiger attack while fishing and while going to Keraghari. He informed that Ash Bahadur Bote of Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality-28 and Anil Tamang of Khairhani Municipality-12 died due to tiger attack.
According to Information Officer Tiwari, Navraj Adhikari of Ratnanagar Municipality-6, who had gone to pick sycamores in the middle community forest, was attacked by a rhinoceros and died. Similarly, Fagunna Mahato of Ratnanagar Municipality-5 died after being attacked by a crocodile, he said.
Information officer Tiwari informed that four rhinos were found dead inside the park at the same time. One of them was killed by a poacher, two were killed in a fight with each other and one was killed by a tiger and a crocodile. He said that among the rhinos found dead, there were two males and the identification of the other two could not be done.
According to the park, 204 rhinos have died in the park since the financial year 2072-73. Among them, 102 males, 78 females and 47 have not been identified.
Among the rhinos that have died so far, there are 68 due to old age and falling from a hill, 19 due to swamps and being swept away by floods, 54 due to conflicts with each other, and 16 due to attacks by tigers and crocodiles. Information officer Tiwari informed that seven rhinoceros died due to poaching, seven due to electrocution, 11 due to illness, three due to falling into ditches, five due to consumption of poison and 28 due to unknown reasons.
