Argentina and Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi has won the men’s Ballon d’Or award for the eighth time.
BBC reported that Messi, who helped his country win the title in the World Cup held in Qatar last year, won the award at a ceremony held in Paris, France.
Messi succeeded in winning the record Ballon d’Or award after beating Manchester City forward Erling Haaland.
French forward Kylian Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 penalty shootout loss to Argentina in the World Cup final, came in third. One hundred journalists from around the world voted to choose the best footballer of the year at the Ballon d’Or.
Messi has now won three more Ballon d’Or awards than any other player. After him, Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or five times.
